Hello Everyone,

Three gentlemen from the Church of St. Pius V in Cannon Falls were dismantling the pews. Some were already removed. They plan to take most of them. They have already taken the standalone front portion of the main altar and said it was really heavy. They will not be taking the back part. They had previously dismantled St. Joseph's altar but the only part they took was the tabernacle. That was the only way they could get to it. As far as they know that's all that is going to St. Pius V except for possibly the big safe in the priest's sacristy. Most of it is going into storage for now until they are ready to install it in their church. They weren't sure how soon that would be. They didn't know anything about the future of St. John's church, only that they were told to be done with their work by June 21.

Both confessionals are partially dismantled.

There was also a contractor working on the handicap ramp. He was dismantling the interior and throwing it into a dumpster. Unlike the guys from St. Pius V, he was not at all chatty so I don't know the plan but I assume the ramp area is being repaired. There has also been work done on the other side of the wall inside of the church. It looks like the plaster is being stripped for eventual replacement. So I guess that means the building will remain standing and not be demolished.

St. Pascal's is in the process of putting together a parish directory and plan to include pictures of the St. John's stained glass windows.

I took a lot of pictures and have attached some of them. They aren't pretty.

It seems clear that something will be happening with St. John's fairly soon. I'll keep checking and keep you all informed.

One wonders who is paying to replace the ramp and repair the walls?

My questions are: Why are they taking out the pews and anything Christian? Heard the Stained Glass windows are to be removed also. There is a lot to be done by June 21st. This is very sad.

No, your pictures are not “pretty,” Greg, but we’re grateful for them nonetheless. We’re steeling ourselves for whatever is coming. I find myself in sympathy with Theresa, who wondered if it might be better to have the church suffer so much water damage that it would need to be torn down. We live about 45 minutes from Cannon Falls, and I hope one day to see our sacred items being cherished at Pius V. Perhaps we should organize a mini-pilgrimage.

What will happen to the main parts of the altars? Does St. Pius want them also?

I had Fr. W. in the office yesterday. I told him of the rumor about the sale of the building to the muslims. He told me that canon law prevents the sale of a Catholic church if it will be involved in sordid affairs. This could, technically, be such an occurrence as they do not worship God. He hopes that the Archdiocese would remember this if such a thing would occur.

It has happened before and it will continue to happen. Who would have EVER imagined it would happen here.

The lack of transparency is an absolute shame.

I am so tired of the outright lies and misinformation.

Is there anything we can do? Is there anyway to stop this? Will the altar just be chopped up and put in a dumpster which is where I presume Saint Joseph landed because he has not been accounted for?

I can not imagine the media would be sympathetic. Glee might be the operative word.
