Hi All,

A little while ago I got a call from Kathy Lantry, our city councilperson in this area. She told me that the Darul-Uloom Islamic Center, new owner of the former St. John's, is having an open house tomorrow afternoon, Friday June 27 from 1:30 to 3:30. The purpose is to introduce themselves to the neighborhood because there are obviously a lot of questions all around. This was organized on very short notice because the sale was just completed last Friday and Ramadan begins on Saturday so they would have to wait another month if it wasn't done immediately.

Details are very sketchy. Anyone in the neighborhood is invited. I don't think anyone will be checking IDs so I'm sure others could show up. The address given was 977 E. Fifth, which is the rectory. Kathy didn't know if the actual open house was there or outside. She also didn't know if there would be access to the old church building. There will be some refreshments and food.

Kathy belongs to St. Pascal's and knows about as much about Islam as the rest of us Catholics. She didn't know if there is any specific dress code but said to dress conservatively. Other than that, we should be ourselves and be friendly.

I live in this neighborhood so I'm hoping we can all just get along. Religious issues aside, I keep reminding myself not to blame the new owners of St. John's for what the Archdiocese did to our parish and church.

I'll be at the open house for awhile tomorrow afternoon and will report back. It should be an experience.

Hope to see some of you there.

Greg

I think this was what Fr. Bryon was talking about when I was meeting with him.
